Create the cartoony bombs from Zelda:Windwaker with this tutorial. You can use this for logo's or signatures to give that extra bit of explosion! A great tutorial to learn the basics of drawing and creating your own cell-shaded icons.

Introduction
Learning how to draw simple and iconic may look easy, but actually pretty tricky. Nevertheless, it's one of my favorite forms of drawing. It's always a challenge to visualise an object as simple, yet as stylish as possible. In this tutorial, I will teach you how to use simple shapes to create a fancy cartoon-bomb like in Zelda The Wind Waker.

Easy peasy
Start off by grabbing the Circular Marquee-Tool and while holding SHIFT, drag a perfect circle in the middle of your document. Then grab your Gradient-Tool and set it to Radial and choose a nice Blue color as your foreground color and the same color as your background color, BUT move the slider a little bit down to make it a little darker. Click in the right-middle and move to the bottom-left. You should have a nice circle.

Press CTRL+J on this layer and press CTRL+U and move the bottom slider all the way to the left. Then press CTRL+T and while holding ALT and SHIFT, drag one of the corner anchorpoints a little towards the center of the circle. Press OK to save this transformation. You should now have a smaller Black circle in your Blue circle...

Use your Elliptical Marquee-Tool to select a round shape that's barely covering the Black circle you just made and press DELETE. What you want to do is make a selection the same size as the Blue orb, but instead of placing it OVER the Black orb, move it to the left and upwards. Lower the opacity on the Black Layer.

Finishing it
With the same gradient, use the Elliptical Marquee-Tool to draw a long and thin oval shape. On a new layer, fill this selection with the gradient. Press V to select your Move-Tool and while holding ALT, press UP a few times to make the shape a little longer. Then select all the layers, except for the last duplicate and merge those layers together using CTRL+E. Press CTRL+U and drag the lower slider a little to the left. Merge the 2 layers together and move the shape to the top of the bomb.

Use the Pen-Tool to draw a circular shadow underneath the just placed shape and fill it with Black on a new layer. Lower the opacity to 30-60. Then, use the Circular Marquee-Tool to draw another oval shape on top of the blue shape and fill this with Black. Give this the same transparency as the previous layer.

On another new layer, use the Circular Marquee-Tool again to draw another pair of oval shapes. Fill this selection with White and place them on the side of your bomb. Again use the same Marquee-Tool for an oval shape on the floor. Create a new layer and drag it to the bottom of the layer-stack, just above the background and fill this oval selection with Black. Then lower the opacity to 10-20%. With your trusty Pen-Tool, and a few shades of Light Greyish-Brown, draw this wick using the image below as a reference.

Conclusion
A very simple and fun way to make a bomb like those cute Wind Waker-bombs. Not much to it, but making other Wind Waker-objects. If you got any others, post them in the comments-section! You can also make this bomb in Illustrator if you want to keep it a vector ofcourse. Also try to experiment with other very easy shapes like a Bowling-Ball or fruit? Thanks for reading and have fun!
