The first ever MickM.com-MULTITUT, combining to classic oldies-tutorials into a larger one for optimal learning and usage! In this tutorial you will learn how to add a dream-blur to our photo's or give them that duotone look you see everywhere. Or experiment a little by combining the two techniques!

Introduction
Not long ago, this tutorial was actually two tutorials. But because both effects are almost the same and should be learned in the same breath, I decided to combine them. Here's 2 ways of giving your photo a little bit of drama and add a little punch to it! First up, the dreamy blur-effect and after that the mysterious duotone.
Dream Blur
We're gonna start with a nice little photo I took three years ago in the West of France. We're gonna use it as a base-photo. If you wish to use this photo for personal use, go ahead. If it's for commercial use, please have the decency to contact me first! Now to start off, simply press CTRL+J to duplicate your layer and going to Filter>Blur>Gaussian Blur and setting the blur-ratio to the middle of the sliding-bar. Set the blending-mode to OVERLAY and press CTRL+J to duplicate your layer again. There you have it!

This effect is even easier. Grab your photo again and duplicate the layer by pressing CTRL+J and press CTRL+SHIFT+U to desaturate the image. Then set the blending-mode to OVERLAY and select the first layer again. Duplicate that again, bu pressing CTRL+J and go to Filter>Blur>Gaussian Blur and set it to the same settings as the previous effect for an added dramatic effect.

Two VERY easy techniques to enhance your photo's with a dramatic, mysterious or dreamy effect. Keep in mind that the blending-modes are not just for show. If you're lost and don't know what to do, cycle through the blending-modes to see the outcome. No-one can tell what the outcome will be unless you try it. Even I have effects that I get when I cycle through them sometimes. It really helps. Experimenting is the key in this! Thanks for reading and have fun!
