A conceptual design for a good friend of mine, Brandon Blokzijl. Back when I started MickM.com, he had his own website for about a year which was a fansite deticated to the game America's Army. He helped me around with a few things to know about starting and maintaining a website. Sadly, his website died a few years ago, but because I always liked it, he played around with the idea to create a new fan-community, this time, revolving around his favorite game Deus Ex. The name Dei Ex Machina is actually the Latin plural of Deus Ex Machina. I came up with that because he needed a cool website adress and since there are 3 Deus Ex's, plural isn't actually a bad idea. Again... it's a conceptgraphic, but I liked this design so much that I had to post it.

I was still in the businesscard-mood and since my friend Dave van Luttervelt also was in need of some businessccards, I decided to whip some up for him. I personally thought the idea of having his head on the front to be hilarious. I also played with the thought of having a card where the head was extractable by pushing it out, leaving the head as a sticker and the rest of the card still in tact, but Dave did not like that concept in general. I did, so I kept it here. The 2nd design was the one he wanted. He wanted a more classy leather/carton textured card, but it could how the silhouette of his cartoon-self. I also ordered 250 cards with that design. I'll upload a real life-photo of those when he has them!

Ever since I made plans to buy the new iPhone 4g and found out that after a long period of 7 years having the same phone-number, I would finally get a new one, I thought about new businesscards. Because I'm also making plans of moving out of my parents house, which isn't gonna happen any time soon, but still, that also got me thinking. Sure, I've ordered 500 cards in the past and 300 of them are still fully sealed and boxed ready for use. I guess I overdid it a little bit. With the next design I'll probably order 100-ish, seeing as I've spent 2-3 years only handing out less than 100 cards or so. Still as I said.. no new plans for a new card, but untill I really need new ones, I might as well come up with designs for them.

The new site and portfolio of my good friend Dave van Luttervelt. Dave is a very skilled sound- and musicdesigner and composer and after I designed his first website, I promised him I would do the 2nd version of his site. To be perfectly honest, I could have been done much sooner with this. The reason I took so long because I was kind of struggling with myself during this period and coming to terms with my perfectionism. Many concepts for the website never left the drawingboard and were actually pretty cool. In the end, I really wanted to come through for Dave for everything he had done for me and seeing as his portfolio deserves to be heard, his site needed to be online. I would really appreciate it if you guys would check his site out :)

The team of Grapplon used a wiki-page to submit and extract information. We also thought it would be needed to create a website. Well... I did. I made one in 30 minutes, but then it turned out we didn't need one. And it was 100% coded and well. Read more about this project on the projects-page.

As a little joke, co-worker and friend Dave (Shizuka) made a remix of quotes by my boss and editted them into the song Harder,Better,Faster,Stronger by Daft Punk. To accompany the song, they asked me to design a small cd-cover.

As a freelance game- and graphicsdesigner, I thought it was desperately needed to get businesscards. That's why I designed these fancy green cards. I ordered 500 of them plus a very fancy silver cardholder. The front of the card is shiney so that it catches the eye while the back is mat for easy navigation!

My favorite game is Grim Fandango and what better way to express that "love" then with a t-shirt? I get so annoyed by those cliché Ché Guivara-shirts, so I decided to do a funny impersonation of those shirts, since the character, Salvador Limones, was loosely based on Ché.
People who know me can see me wearing it!

For my internship at Soepel, I worked on a project for Red Bull. When I started working at Soepel, they had just finished the first version of Red Bull Knockout, a racegame that took place on the beach, just like the Dutch anual event with the same name.
For version 2, they wanted to do something even better. I was assigned together with my co-worker/mentor to come up with cool new conceptual designs for the interface and overall style. Together with him, I designed this over-the-top robotic interface with a glowing red mechanical bull at the bottom. It may have taken longer than the other designs, but it was totally worth it.
It wasn't chosen by the client, because it was obviously way too much over-the-top. Technically it was a much better design in my opinion though.

A friend of mine, Dave, who is also studying Gamedesign, wants to be a Sounddesigner. Well, he already is. And a great one. Because he wanted to apply for a job and he told me that he wasn't that skilled with graphics, he asked me to design his website and logo. Because he's a sounddesigner, he wanted something with sheetmusic.

Another small experimental webdesign I made for myself. I experimented with serif-fonts turned 3d in combination with a dark tech-layout. I think it worked pretty well.

TvBoy was a 2D platform-game we made for a Nintendo handheld. Sadly, we did not have the tools and options to actually let it work on a handheld, so we chose to run it on a pc. TvBoy is a game similair to other platformers where your goal is to finish the game using the special powers of the protagonist. Read more about this project on the projects-page.

Tama Mari was a puzzlegame for a schoolproject. It was your task to rotate the level and shoot your player to the finish using the gravity of every level. Read more about this project on the projects-page.

I made this website as a conceptual proposal for Dutch DJ PeterV. He liked the logo and the site, but his manager had other plans with the website which led to me not being hired for the job. Too bad...

The longest sitting version up to date now, MickM.com v9 having it's eye-catching flash-header. The first version of MickM.com to have flash-elements incorporated into the layout. After a history of all-green sites, this site was something different with a new color-scheme of Blue and Green.

This job may have been one of the biggest sites I ever had to make. I made this site for the large community of HQ-Overview. With a large portal-site giving access to the 4 subsites themed by America's Army, Battlefield, COunterstrike and StarGate.

Another small experimental webdesign I made for myself. I tried to experiment with what a Flash-website looked like complete with preloader.

A former classmate and friend of mine wanted a personal site for her photo's and since I liked her a lot, I proposed to make it. She didn't want me to go through the trouble of webdesign and didn't want to bother me with it so she declined. I would have been happy to help her out though...

A simple experimental siteconcept I made when I was bored. I wanted to experiment with realistic leaves in contrast to cartooney borders.

When I started with Flash, I wanted to make my very first flash-website. However, this was very tricky. I did make something which didn't work out that much. But the mockup is pretty good if you ask me. IF it worked in flash, it would have been better.

This design was made for a Swedish RPG-clan where people could form clans and display their stats. Kinda like a community. The client was really pleased with how it came together, although when I checked back one year later, the site was gone...

The owner of Xerono-hosting asked me to create a webdesign and logodesign for him. Little did I know that after the company resigned, the owner sold the design to another company and ever since that purchase, 4 companies have had that layout, all with a different name and logo. I could have made some money off of that if I was a little smarter back then...

To most people, this is still the best version of MickM.com up to date. For the first time ever I chose to have a color-selector implemented in the layout for visitors to chose their favorite MickM-color. The site came in 7 colors with all their own header and footer. Blue and Red were the styles that were chosen the most. This site was also the most-ripped layout; 56 times!

Perfectionism is a strange thing. It can make you do sudden moves. Like v7 of MickM.com. Suddendly I felt the urge to change the layout because I didn't like something about it. Apart from the numerous rips this layout recieves I also grew tired of the looks, but there was something I still liked. Not being able to put my finger on it, I designed an improved remake also known as v6.2. THis later became v7 after some other minor changes that made the source-code unique from v6.

For a pitch, that I later lost to another designer, I made a mockup for a famous Anime-site. They wanted something DragonballZ-themed and something unique.

After the grungey style of the previous version, this time I wanted something a little more in my favorite style. The vector-style was an upcoming trend and together with a few other sites, I think we set that trend. This version was also the first version to have vector silhouettes of people.

Back in 2005, my friend, Lex Verheesen, and I wanted to start a webdesigncompany called Kiwi Designs. The name came from our shared love for the color green and the fruit itself. Sadly, because Lex was very busy with personal stuff, we never got it off the ground...

The long awaited v5 of MickM.com took a little longer due to a bandwidth-problem back in the days of my first host without being sponsored by the great FlexiHostings. After having a history of unrealistic layouts, I tried a new grungey more decayed and mossey layout.
